Trying to think outside of the box on new travel destinations? Maybe you are thinking about doing more activities or experiences versus sightseeing. Think about including some of your other interests! Keep reading to see how I have mashed my interests together!
Growing up playing travel hockey I had the opportunity to travel all over the Midwest. This gave me my first taste of adventure and seeing new places, which really sparked my love for travel.
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have crossed many destinations off my bucket list. Recently, I decided why not let my love for travel now re-spark my love for hockey. I have decided to start making a stadium bucket list. This list includes every current NHL (National Hockey League) stadium and I plan to mark them off as I see a game there. So far I have seen 9 stadiums but have only been able to enjoy games in 4 of them. While simply seeing the stadium and city would be enjoyable, remember we are looking for more experiences, so I plan to see a game at each location.
While I love the Blackhawks (sorry if you’re a rival), I find the game more enjoyable when you can root for the home team. It provides a much better energy throughout the stadium and the game. Therefore, I like to pick games where they are not playing the Blackhawks.
Not a hockey fan? No problem, you can do this with any sport. After I told my friend about this he started making his own list with MLB Stadiums and he has already been to more games than me now!
Now before you start looking up game schedules you might find it beneficial to create a map to see the location of the stadiums first. (I have included my NHL one below for free) This can help you visualize a possible trip to knock off several stadiums at once. For instance, when I went out to Los Angeles I was able to see both the LA Kings’ Stadium and the Anaheim Ducks’ Stadium. This can help you make your trips more efficient and enjoyable! Also, if you make a printable map you can mark off your trips as they happen! I always find it very satisfying to physically mark something off a list plus you could display it and see where you have been.
